Summary

Go back to where it all began with the third book in Sunday Times bestselling author Julia Quinn’s dazzlingly witty Bridgerton prequel series, featuring the ancestors of the Bridgerton characters we all know and love。 A generation before the Bridgertons, there were the Rokesbys 。 。 。

She was in the wrong place。。。

Fiercely independent and adventurous, Poppy Bridgerton will only wed a suitor whose keen intellect and interests match her own。 Sadly, none of the fools from her London season qualify。 While visiting a friend on the Dorset coast, Poppy is pleasantly surprised to discover a smugglers' hideaway tucked inside a cave。 But her delight turns to dismay when two pirates kidnap her and take her aboard a ship, leaving her bound and gagged on the captain's bed…

He found her at the wrong time。。。

Known to society as a rascal and reckless privateer, Captain Andrew James Rokesby actually transports essential goods and documents for the British government。 Setting sail on a time-sensitive voyage to Portugal, he's stunned to find a woman waiting for him in his cabin。 Surely, his imagination is getting the better of him。 But no, she is very real—and his duty to the Crown means he's stuck with her。

Can two wrongs make the most perfect right?

When Andrew learns that she is a Bridgerton, he knows he will likely have to wed her to avert a scandal—though Poppy has no idea that he is the son of an earl and neighbor to her aristocratic cousins in Kent。 On the high seas, their war of words soon gives way to an intoxicating passion。 But when Andrew's secret is revealed, will his declaration of love be enough to capture her heart…?

Definitely my least favorite Bridgerton/Rokesby series。 Just didn't particularly like the two leads' characters -- which I'm sure is kind of splitting hairs because none of them are all so very different。 They're all rich British aristocracy from the 17 & 1800s of one sort or another, but there you are。 Onto the next。 Definitely my least favorite Bridgerton/Rokesby series。 Just didn't particularly like the two leads' characters -- which I'm sure is kind of splitting hairs because none of them are all so very different。 They're all rich British aristocracy from the 17 & 1800s of one sort or another, but there you are。 Onto the next。 。。。more

Usual pre regency romance fare from Quinn, this time with a Bridgerton cousin caught at the wrong time in a coastal cave。 Extra star for Andrew’s opinion on reading: “a person should read a book because it speaks to something in his heart, because it fills a thirst。。。” Edwin and Violet Bridgerton are also mentioned at the end。

In Julia Quinn’s third book in the Rokesby series, Because of Miss Bridgerton, we meet of Poppy Bridgerton。 I didn’t remember Billie Bridgerton (the first book in the series) having a sister so I was so confused who Poppy was。 A bit later in the story, you learn she is Billie’s first cousin。 While I did love the relationship and love story between Poppy and Andrew, some of the storyline seemed a bit extreme to me。 Would someone get kidnapped like Poppy did for exploring a cave and finding treasu In Julia Quinn’s third book in the Rokesby series, Because of Miss Bridgerton, we meet of Poppy Bridgerton。 I didn’t remember Billie Bridgerton (the first book in the series) having a sister so I was so confused who Poppy was。 A bit later in the story, you learn she is Billie’s first cousin。 While I did love the relationship and love story between Poppy and Andrew, some of the storyline seemed a bit extreme to me。 Would someone get kidnapped like Poppy did for exploring a cave and finding treasure? Would the person then be locked in the captain’s quarters for a week unable to leave at all? I guess these are unknowns since it is no longer the 1700s。 The reunion between Poppy and Andrew was predictable but that didn’t make me enjoy it any less。 Onto the final book in the series。 #TheOtherMissBridgerton #JuliaQuinn #RokesbySeries #Romance #ChickLit #HistoricalFiction #Fiction #Ships #Sailing #Family #Pirates #April #2021 。。。more

This audiobook was a fun, fluffy read。 Wrapped up a little to quickly/easily for my taste but I get why。 RTC(And yes, this is my second Julia Quinn after reading The Duke and I。) This audiobook was a fun, fluffy read。 Wrapped up a little to quickly/easily for my taste but I get why。 RTC(And yes, this is my second Julia Quinn after reading The Duke and I。) 。。。more

This one took me a second to get into。 Mostly, when did Andrew become a pirate? I thought he was in the navy。 Ohhhh 7 years ago。 Got it。 Thank you for telling me book。 But once I figured that out I really enjoyed this one。 It was a fun read

Finished the Rokesby series with this!Just like the Smythe-Smith Quartet, this series is better than the Bridgerton ones! I am very attached to the Rokesbys。Here's my ranking of the books in the series:1) Nicholas (First Comes Scandal) AND Edward (The Girl with the Make Believe Husband)3) Andrew (The Other Miss Bridgerton)4) George (Because of Miss Bridgerton)Do they make Rokesby Trash t-shirts?

Glorious LoveThe story was slow in the first few chapters almost dull。 But I knew it was building and the love truly seemed to take forever to develop。 But you just keep turning the pages knowing it's coming。 The author does an exquisite job of luring you into the web of desire and leaves you waiting and wanting more。 You just can't have everything until the end。 Nicely done the hero and heroine tit for tat really showed who these characters were and brought them to life and love。 Glorious LoveThe story was slow in the first few chapters almost dull。 But I knew it was building and the love truly seemed to take forever to develop。 But you just keep turning the pages knowing it's coming。 The author does an exquisite job of luring you into the web of desire and leaves you waiting and wanting more。 You just can't have everything until the end。 Nicely done the hero and heroine tit for tat really showed who these characters were and brought them to life and love。 。。。more

You know a historical romance novel is off to a good start when the main character is kidnapped within the first chapter。 I loved Poppy and Andrew's constant bickering and good natured ribbing, and the always fun "forced to share a room" plot line made the speed with which they get to know each other feel a little more realistic。 Plus what could be more romantic than a first kiss under the stars in the middle of the ocean?! I swoon。 You know a historical romance novel is off to a good start when the main character is kidnapped within the first chapter。 I loved Poppy and Andrew's constant bickering and good natured ribbing, and the always fun "forced to share a room" plot line made the speed with which they get to know each other feel a little more realistic。 Plus what could be more romantic than a first kiss under the stars in the middle of the ocean?! I liked this book but I didn't love it。 It might be from the kidnapping。 It could be considered Stockholm syndrome more than love。Still I had a good time reading it。 I loved the secondary characters and what Andrew became。 I liked this book but I didn't love it。 It might be from the kidnapping。 It could be considered Stockholm syndrome more than love。Still I had a good time reading it。 I loved the secondary characters and what Andrew became。 。。。more

I really enjoy her books but it’s getting to the point where it’s very predictable in a “different scene, same story” kind of thing。 But again。。。I will read all the other books in the series because I do enjoy them!

*4。5☆* I enjoyed this so much, it truly was great fun。 It is hard to hate a charming privateer who aids his country! Poppy & Nick are so dang perfect together and their banter is some of my favorite。 I'd say that if you experience extreme bouts of claustrophobia, some of this will be difficult to read。 I felt suffocated at times。 Other than that, I strongly recommend giving this a shot。 *4。5☆* I enjoyed this so much, it truly was great fun。 It is hard to hate a charming privateer who aids his country! AHH! I loved this。 Poppy was fantastic, and I thought the pirate kidnapping plot was fun to read。 This series has stayed much stronger to me than the original series。

Jen

The pirate kidnapping was quite the adventure😉

April

This book was completely ridiculous, and I thoroughly enjoyed it!

At first I was unsure of how I felt about kidnapper turned lover story, but with backstory Julia Quinn gives it makes for some funny and enchanting moments。

Ant

Nice but probably worth 3。5 stars。 Still, I liked the first half, the sea voyage in particular, but how Andrew got out of his captivity wasn’t elaborated on or convincing。 So not perfect。
